 Mattie♥ Sedaghat

I'm an English Major at UofT and I'm minoring in Biology and Physiology. Reading and writing are my passions. And books are my getaway heaven. I love to act, whether on stage or in short films. I love vampire shows. I can't play any sports because it is impossible for me to feel safe around people running around and kicking things. If there was one type of food I could swim in I would choose whipped cream or home-made rice crispies... Or pizza (and the list goes on). I'm a thalassophobe at nighttime and a claustrophobe.

Nikki Sedaghat

Having been drawn to drama and poetry, following a family crisis in 2001, Nikki wrote her first poem.  She has since then completed a large body of work and has submitted her poems to local publications and competitions.  Like her own free spirit and profound livelihood, Nikki’s work is immensely motivational and dynamic.

Her poem “We” was published in “A Celebration of Poets” in the Fall of 2009.

"We" by Nikki Sedaghat

There are the Blacks, the Whites, the Muslims, and the Jews.
In between all this, what do you choose?
Put the race aside as well as colour and size.
We are all the same, we shouldn’t categorize.
Don’t we all play, learn, laugh, and cry?
Then differences we have should not apply.
Although for magnificent life we all wish and pray,
We waste our lives in an ordinary way.
We aren’t ever satisfied, yet we are greatly blessed.
We aren’t grateful for what we have, over materials we just obsess.
While a child dies of hunger, we push back our plates.
Their hollow bellies grumble, while we starve ourselves to lose weight.
He lacks the gift of sight; all he does is fantasize.
While we watch the world blindly, missing the wonderment that lies.
We should appreciate our lives; they can change in a blink of an eye.
We should live life to the fullest, and set our standards high.
The excitement in life depends on how you express.
Believe in yourself as well as the rest.
This thrilling ride will soon come to an end.
Don’t waste your time; stand out, don’t blend.

 Kevin Tabrizi - Biography

Kevin’s interest in acting began at the young age of four.  Kevin and his cousins started shedding their inhibitions by performing for his family and friends with passionate enthusiasm. He then demonstrated his true talent in acting when he started taking Drama classes.  This interest was then followed by his appearance in numerous community and school plays.  Kevin auditioned for the school play, “The Insanity of Mary Girard” and got one of the main leads.

Directors have noted that Kevin has a natural talent for acting and that one of the best things about him is that “he doesn’t even know how good he really is”.  In the staging of the play, The Children’s Crusade (“directed” by Tim Albery -Canadian Opera Company's Peter Grimes, Gotterdammerung, War and Peace) Kevin assisted Tim by animating the space and becoming a part of the behind the scenes for the journey within this Crusade.

At the age 15, he gained the supporting role in Fall Play.  Most recently, Kevin was in a Diversity Festival geared for Newcomer youth.  He not only participated in many of the short plays, he also was a major lead in the writing, directing and organizing the youth component of the festival.  To honour his efforts, Kevin received the award of appreciation at the closing ceremony.

Kevin continues participating in community plays and otherwise supporting the newcomer youths within the Mississauga community.

Shina Abrishami

It is very easy to describe Shina:  She is one of the smartest kids I have ever known - that simple!  Shina lives in Iran and as such, in order for her to attend university, she had to prepare for and take the “Konkoor”.  Konkoor is a nation-wide four-hour Iranian university entrance exam.

Shina managed to score high and got the 600 ranking among 400,000 Konkoor participants.  She is now in the process of finishing her undergrad degree in Architecture at Ghazvin University.  Shina plans to continue her studies in Architecture towards a master’s degree.

As for Shina's interests, reading is number one.  Once you give her a good book, she can't stop reading it until it's over.  Shina enjoys Harry Potter novels, which she's read thousands of times over, as well as other fantasy and horror novels such as Dracula."

Sarshar Abrishami

Sarshar is an intense, passionate woman with artistic, entrepreneurial and athletic abilities and interests.  At the age of 10, with the encouragement and influence of her mother (an athletic person in nature herself), she started attending rigorous swimming lessons.  As a teen-ager, Sarshar continued her training and expanded on her mother’s plan to obtain her Swimming Instruction certificate and international life guard certificate, which she did at the age of 16.

Having an entrepreneurial spirit, she started holding private dance classes in her community at the age 14.  Much to her own and her family’s surprise, she succeeded in securing a small business for herself.

Sarshar had always been interested in art since her early teen-aged years.  To do justice to this passion, she enrolled in a Graphics Arts high school and continued her studies with more emphasis on art.  Sarshar has produced a sizable body of work in graphics design and painted in oils as well.  Her first exhibit was held in Toronto at Neilson Park Creative Centre, with her art titled “Rising Hope”.

Sarshar continues to teach swimming and perform life guard duties at private and semi-private swimming pools and clubs.  She also continues to paint as a hobby.
