Artist Statement - Shohreh Khorasani (Sherry Khorasani, shohreh azghadi khorasani) I am a self-taught award-winning artist, painting mainly in watercolour – watercolour, because of its translucent quality and subtle, yet dynamic advantages that can not be achieved in any other medium. In each painting, I attempt to capture the nature as I imagine it to be. My most favourite style of painting is abstract realism, which allows me to express more passionately and without limitations and constraints. My technical abilities give me the advantage of a structured mind. As such, I enjoy converting my paintings to wallpaper and fabric motifs by means of graphic design. My wallpapers can be viewed on www.wallandfabric.com I serve my community as an artist, mentor, art instructor, engineer, environmental activist and volunteer. | Bio ….. (azghadi) I was born in Iran in the province of Khorasan (the land of sun) and raised in the capital city of Tehran. As much as I enjoyed growing up in the hustle and bustle of the big city, I loved the cottage country and near the water, where I felt most creatively stimulated. I moved to Canada in 1985 and soon after attended advancement classes in the areas of my interest, namely Architecture, Fine Arts and Fine Arts History. Ever since my early teenage years, I have been aware of my artistic and creative abilities and my passion towards art. These studies gave me the added encouragement. Combined with my love for art, it validated a return to my first passion of painting. My artistic abilities and creative mind inspired me to study Engineering. I graduated from University of Toronto in 1995. I currently work as a Professional Engineer and continue practicing art, the field I am most passionate about. Painting, initially a hobby, became a passion, which I now express through my watercolour paintings and ink paisley designs. Throughout my professional career, I have won many awards. I won my first award in art in 1989 and a few more professional awards afterwards. Now just in January of 2010 I was the UNICEF award winner for Cultural Category for three artworks, to be published internationally in the fall of 2010. shohreh azghadi shohreh khorasani sharareh azghadi sharareh khorasani zohreh azghadi zohreh khorasani zohreh sedaghat elaheh azghadi elaheh khorasani hamid azghadi hamid khorasani gholamali azghadi monavar zenouzi sherry khorasani sherry azghadi sarah sedaghat
